NAMIWalks slated for Sept. 1
Middletown. The walk is in support of mental health.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will be holding a fundraising walk on September 1 at 9 a.m. to support free mental health services in the county. The walk will kick off at the Middletown leg of the Heritage Trail. There is no fee to participate. Participants who raise up to $100 will get a free NAMI T-shirt.
NAMI provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness around mental health issues “so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives,” the organization explains on its website. The organization began in 1979 and today comprises about 600 local affiliates and 49 state organizations.
The local Orange County affiliate offers free support groups (currently virtual via Zoom), support service resources, and education and advocacy opportunities.
