‘It is a mistake to water down and dilute the character development of men’

I was saddened reading “The New Face of Scouting” in last week’s paper as my participation in the Boy Scouts (obtain Eagle Scout rank) was an important aspect of my moral and good citizen development.

In simple terms: to be a decent good man.

I learned the nature of duty, obligation, responsibility and how a man should conduct himself in relationship to other men, women and country.

Without question the moral fiber good character is learned from good examples which the men who my scout leaders 60 years ago were.

It is a mistake to water down and dilute the character development of men. The need to instill a sense of duty to be the bedrock, the moral force, the protector of family, country and society.

Civil society needs those values instilled and the Boy Scouts did that job.
