Monique Brutus of Goshen, New York, who recently moved to Douglasville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021. She was 70 years old.
She was born Oct. 26, 1950 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
A sweet and funny person, Monique was personable and made friends with everyone. She loved music and dancing, especially the traditional Haitian dance La Compa.
When her daughter, Melissa, was young, they would play the radio in the mornings before school and have dance parties.
Known to be a news buff, Monique was an avid follower of the news. She was lovingly known by her nickname “Moumoune.”
She loved cooking for her family. Monique always wanted others to have goals for themselves and reach for the stars.Her motto was to “think big.”
Monique was a devout Catholic and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Middletown, New York.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Antoine Champagne and Naomi Lamour Champagne; and a sister.
Those left to cherish her memory are her lifelong partner Stagne Doura; son Maxime Brutus of Florida; daughters Nathalie Brutus and Melissa Doura, both of New York; and a cousin, Gesner Champagne, of Haiti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Rosehaven Chapel with Father Nicholas Guyma officiating.
She will be laid to rest at Rosehaven Memorial Park.
