Thomas J. Reape Sr. of Goshen entered into rest on Thursday, April 3, 2025, after a long illness. He was 82.

Thomas was born on May 29, 1942, in the Bronx. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1964 and received a Master’s Degree in English from the University of Pittsburgh.

Thomas loved teaching. For more than 30 years, he taught English at Monroe-Woodbury High School, where he was also the advisor to the yearbook and the Drama Club. He directed dozens of theatrical productions and inspired a generation of actors.

After his retirement, Tom enjoyed a second career as an adjunct professor of English at Orange County Community College.

Tom is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Reape, to whom he was devoted. He is also survived by his daughters Kelly Clayton (Christopher) and Stephanie Birdsall (Matthew) and his beloved grandchildren Kate, Meghan, Emily, Erika and Norah.

He was predeceased by his son, Thomas J. Reape Jr.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 12, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church St., Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, and in recognition of Thomas’s lifelong love of reading, donations may be made to the Friends of the Goshen Public Library and Historical Society, 366 Main St., Goshen, NY 10924.
