Mary Jane O’Hara of Monroe passed away on April 10, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. She was 91 years old.
The daughter of William and Dorothy (Roe) Brennan, she was born in Brooklyn on July 19, 1933.
Mary Jane obtained her master’s in mathematics from Hunter College and was a math teacher prior to becoming a caseworker for Adult Protective Services in Goshen.
She was a proud member of the Christian Service Committee and Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church in Monroe. She also was a former poll worker for the Town of Monroe.
Mary Jane was a smart, thoughtful, kind and compassionate woman who always looked for the good in others. Her favorite pastime was spending her summers on Long Beach Island visiting with and being surrounded by family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Thomas M. O’Hara and his wife Cecile of Summit, N.J.; Edward J. O’Hara and his wife Maria of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; Kathleen M. O’Hara of Dobbs Ferry; Mary Ann Ditmars and her husband James of Marlton, N.J.; and Patricia O’Hara of Manahawkin, N.J.; sisters Dorothy P. Flower of Rye; and Elizabeth A. Spellman of Bethel, Conn.; grandchildren Thomas O’Hara, James O’Hara, Catherine O’Hara, James Ditmars and Patrick Ditmars.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was predeceased by her daughter Nancy J. O’Hara, her brother William J. Brennan Jr. and her former husband Thomas N. O’Hara.
Visitation was held April 13 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe. A
Funeral Mass was celebrated April 14 at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Rd., Monroe.
The interment will be private.
