At Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster’s recent Celebration of Charity event, representatives of ShopRite Supermarket presented a super-sized check for $75,770.

The check represented ShopRite’s 11th annual Feeding Our Neighbors donation which supports food pantries throughout the Hudson Valley that are part of the network of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York.

Feeding Our Neighbors is a two-week, in-store campaign hosted by ShopRite that raises funds and collects food to support Catholic Charities’ food pantries, soup kitchens and other programs that fight hunger in the Hudson Valley. ShopRite’s 26 stores in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Ulster, Sullivan and Westchester counties participated.

More than 300,000 meals

The $75,770 raised during the 2025 campaign is the equivalent of approximately 303,000 meals. The funds were shared between different Catholic Charities agencies in each of the counties where ShopRite stores are located.

Since joining Catholic Charities’ annual Feeding Our Neighbors initiative in 2014, ShopRite Supermarkets and its guests have donated more than $868,000 and made donations of non-perishable food items to support Catholic Charities’ efforts to address food insecurity in the communities it serves.

The overall donation reflects the equivalent of more than 3,475,000 meals.

“ShopRite Supermarkets’ store associates and customers firmly believe in supporting local organizations, like Catholic Charities, that provide a helping hand to our neighbors when they’re going through difficult times,” said Mike Schoendorf, vice president of Operations for ShopRite Supermarkets. “It’s important to us that we give where our associates live and work so that we can work together to fight hunger and food insecurity close to home.”

Chester ShopRite leads the way

Leading the supermarket’s Feeding Our Neighbors fundraising efforts in Orange, Sullivan and Ulster were the Chester store raising $8,725, the Monticello location raising $3,347, and the New Paltz store bringing in $1,840. More than $32,200 was received to support Catholic Charities’ food insecurity efforts in Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties.

“A spirit of giving and commitment to community is embraced at all levels of the organization,” Catholic Charities CEO Shannon Kelly said. “They are making a positive difference for our neighbors in need.”
