Legoland will not survive New York weather
To the Editor:
When you think of an amusement park, you imagine happy children running from ride to ride in the warm sunshine. This scenario might be true for Legoland’s year around parks in sunny Florida and California, but New York’s weather is unpredictable. A seasonal outdoor park opening on April 1 and closing Nov. 1 becoming a booming profitable business in this area is doubtful.
National Weather has years of documented graphs of what the weather has been in Goshen, N.Y. April’s average temperature is a high of 49 degrees and a low of 28 degrees, with 3.93 inches of rain. Think of the weather we have had so far this month. Temperatures have been up and down like a ping pong ball with winter jackets not yet stored away. Thunderstorms, lighting, high winds and torrential rains caused flooding resulting in downed trees and loss of electric and cable service to our homes.
It’s a fairy tale thinking parents would bring their children to an amusement park wearing winter coats and boots. The water rides will not be of any interest. If families spend the $400 admission fee they want to have an awesome experience.
This area is prone to heat related dangerous summer storms and I wonder how Legoland will evacuate 20,000 visitors in 20 minutes. On Oct. 8, 2016, it snowed 10.6 inches in Goshen.
If you build it, they will come does not apply to Legoland NY in Goshen.
