I cannot let hysterical attack against Assemblyman Schmitt stand
Editor's note: The following letter is in response to Ingrid Mazzola's letter "Colin Schmitt owes us an explanation," published in the Feb. 21 edition.
To the Editor:
A hysterical political attack on our Assemblyman Colin Schmitt cannot be let to stand without response.
Assemblyman Schmitt is a dedicated leader for our community who delivers time and time again. Sadly, blind partisans will say or do anything to distort the truth. Assemblyman Schmitt delivered the permanent property tax cap for all New York families. He was the leading voice in the State Assembly pushing for its passage. Assemblyman Schmitt was the prime sponsor of A4776A, a bill to make the property tax cap permanent; the basis for the final permanent cap.
Assemblyman Schmitt helped led the bipartisan vote in support of the A2852 floor amendment to make the property tax cap permanent.
Assemblyman Schmitt was the first State Legislator to join the bipartisan Tax Cap Coalition led by former Democratic Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy to successfully fight for and deliver the permanent property tax cap.
Schmitt personally recruited every single other legislator who joined the coalition and its successful Albany rally.
Sadly, as the outrageous statements by Ms Mazzola failed to mention that Senator James Skoufis sold out our values by voting for the final bail reform bill. This bill has let murderers out on the streets. Assemblyman Schmitt was not willing to compromise his values to endanger our communities. Senator Skoufis was, shame on him.
I am grateful that Assemblyman Schmitt has voted to keep us safe and deliver the tax cap. God bless you Mr. Schmitt.
