Orange County to hold senior games from Sept. 16 to Oct. 31
GOSHEN. “We are delighted to join forces with the Senior Games committee and the Parks Department to host this event,” said AnnMarie Maglione, Orange County’s Director of the Office for the Aging. “We know that exercise and physical activity are good for overall health. A little friendly competition is also fun.”
The Orange County Senior Games will celebrate its 36th year with a variety of competitions, contests, museum tours and social activities for men and women ages 55 and older.
Presented by the Orange County Department of Parks and Office for the Aging, the Senior Games is one of the longest-running programs of its kind in the nation. It will be held from Sept. 16 to Oct. 31 at various venues throughout the county.
The longtime sponsor, ShopRite, provides food and refreshmentsas well as volunteer staff from their stores. Other sponsors include The Senior Gazette, Village Auto Works, Highland Rehab and Nursing Center, Stage and Nathans LLP, Adams Fairacre Farms, Access Physical Therapy and Wellness, Angry Orchard Cider House, Orange and Rockland and The Bellvale Community.
For certain events, seniors compete for gold, silver and bronze Olympic-style medallions in the following age groups: 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84 and 85 and over. For a registration fee of $12, seniors are eligible for all events and receive a Senior Games T-shirt, along with giveaways, door prizes and refreshments.
