Goshen swimmers commit to colleges
Goshen. Korianne Moore has committed to swim at the University of New England. Blake Albanese has committed to swim at Babson College.
Goshen's girls and boys swimming and diving teams are each graduating a founding member who has committed to continuing their swimming careers at the collegiate level.
A celebratory signing ceremony was held at Goshen High School on Jan. 23.
Korianne Moore has committed to swim at the University of New England, The Nor’Easters, a NCAA Division III (D3) swimming program, located in southern Maine. Korianne intends to major in marine science and animal behavior.
Blake Albanese has committed to swim at Babson College, The Beavers, also a D3 swimming program. Babson is located in Wellesley, Mass., about 20 miles west of Boston. Blake plans to major in business administration.
Korianne and Blake are two-time captains of their respective teams, working with Coach Melissa Kubik during their junior and senior years. In addition, both swimmers were scholar-athletes for each of the five years that they swam on their respective teams.
The Girls and Boys Swimming and Diving teams had their inaugural season over the 2015-16 academic year. The teams were formed through the efforts of the Goshen Swimming and Diving Team Booster Club, whose members worked to raise funds to secure pool time and coaching staff for that inaugural season.
The major source of funding for the team is the annual Harlem Wizards basketball game against the Goshen teachers, staff, and principles, which this year was scheduled for March 27, but has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The funds raised from this game, as well as car wash fundraisers, are used to support the teams’ members, such as scholarships for graduating seniors, annual team banquets, and swim parkas that keep the swimmers warm between events.
