Classic 10K honors supporting organizations

MIDDLETOWN — In February, the directors of The Classic 10K Road Race presented by Crystal Run Healthcare held a community recognition reception to thank sponsors, volunteers and committee members and recognize community honorees.
Now in its sixth year, the reception serves as a platform to wrap-up the previous Classic year and kick-off the year ahead.
This year, The Classic honored several community organizations, once again donating a total of $8,000 to recipients including Orange Regional Medical Center Foundation, Mental Health Association of Orange County, the Warming Station run by the Greater Middletown Interfaith Council, Middletown Lion's Club ‘No Child Hungry’ program, Guild of St. Margaret's Soup Kitchen, Middletown Cross Country, Mayor’s Youth Council, Middletown Fire Police, and RECAP. In addition, a donation was made to the NephCure Foundation on behalf of the winners of the Corporate Team Charity Challenge, “Van Remenar’s The Fighting Kidney’s” founded by Van, Dr. Lin-Lin Remenar and family.
“Crystal Run Healthcare remains deeply committed to supporting The Classic 10K, which is truly a world-class event and an overall amazing experience,” said Michelle A. Koury, MD, Crystal Run Healthcare’s Chief Operating Officer and Presenting Sponsor of The Classic 10K Road Race. "The continued success of this event allows for generous reinvestment in our community. The benefits of running, as part of a healthy lifestyle, include a healthy weight, excellent heart function, and mood elevation. This is why I run, and I hope others will join us for this year’s Classic 10K Road Race Weekend."
The 2017 Classic 10K Road Race Weekend will take place Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4 ,at the Middletown High School Track, one of only 15 tracks in all of North America that is IAAF certified. Additionally, 2017 marks the first year that The Classic 10K is recognized as a USATF New York 10K Championship. Olympic Marathon Gold and Silver Medal Winner, Frank Shorter, who once called Middletown home, originally inspired The Classic , which today attracts more than 1,200 elite and local runners alike.
The two-day Classic will feature kid’s races for ages 12 and under from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3.
Sunday, June 4, is “Classic Sunday,” beginning at 7:30 a.m., with the The Classic 10K (6.2 miles) followed by The Rowley 5K Run and Walk (3.1 miles).
