Burke Catholic hires Kevin Ross to be new head football coach
GOSHEN — John S. Burke Catholic High School in Goshen hired former Army football Offensive Coordinator Kevin Ross as its new head football coach.
The son of long-time NFL and NCAA Head Coach Bobby Ross, he served as Army’s Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach from 2003-2007. Prior to arriving at Burke Catholic, Ross served as an Assistant Coach on the football staffs of the University at Albany, University of Virginia, The Citadel, Georgia Tech, and Southwest Texas State. He holds a master’s degree in education and has also been hired to teach math and business at Burke Catholic.
A 1988 graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Ross received his bachelor’s degree in economics. During his senior year, he captained the Academy’s track team, where he still holds the Academy record as a member of the distance medley relay team.
Upon graduating from the Academy, Ross served in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Company Commander, achieving the rank of Captain. During his time in service to his country, he served in locations throughout the United States as well as Japan, the Philippine Islands and participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1990.
Former Head Coach Ed VanCuren, who has been an integral part of the football program since its inception, and led the program to last year’s Section IX Class C Championship, will be retained on staff as Defensive Coordinator.
