'Thank you, to guardians unknown'

— The presence of so many members of the community, and so many young Scouts, at Chester's Memorial Day services was gratifying to all.
The community gathered inside the Walton Engine & Hose firehouse on Monday to honor American servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The service was held inside because of the threat of rain.
American Legion Orange Blossom Post 1167 Commander Ed Johnson conducted the service. Former Mayor and fellow veteran Phil Valastro also spoke, and father John Bonnici offered prayers.
Firefighters stood at attention in their dress uniforms and many veterans, as well as Ladies’ Auxiliary members, were in attendance.
Wreaths were laid at the monument. Abagail Boardman sang the Star-Spangled Banner and Bridget Burke played Taps.
Johnson read the following poem by Sherrie Ball that summed up the feeling in everyone's hearts that day:

I do not know your name—
Nor for which battle you died.
I do not know your home,
Nor the tears that were cried.

I do not know where you rest—
Nor the promises broken.
I do not know your uniform
And your fears lay unspoken.

But, I know your spirit exists —
That your courage is admired,
And your sacrifice is honored

By each soul that’s inspired.
And I offer you from my heart
Thank you, to guardians unknown
For offering yourselves for us all
That we may keep freedom...
Our home.
