Richard Mayfield is new community development director

— Richard Mayfield has been appointed to fill the top spot at the Orange County Office of Community Development, a position he has held as Acting Director since Nov. 2011, Orange County Executive Edward Diana announced on Feb. 8.

The Orange County Legislature unanimously approved Mayfield’s appointment.

Mayfield previously served as the county’s director of operations. He joined the county executive’s staff in 2007 as press secretary and assistant to the county executive.

“It gives me great pleasure to name Richard as director of community development and to know that his appointment was met with such enthusiastic support from the legislature,” said Diana. “During his tenure with Orange County government, Richard has worn many different hats and taken on a variety of challenges, including oversight of numerous County departments. He is a consummate team player, a dedicated public servant, and an experienced leader. I know that he will be successful in his new role."

A life-long Orange County resident, Mayfield and his wife, Deborah, live in the Town of Newburgh. He served as district director for Congressman Ben Gilman for 12 years and director of the Office of Inter-Governmental Relations with the New York State Assembly.
