ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State Police K9 units are receiving special recognition in a new campaign on the division's Facebook page.
The so-called “Dog Days of Summer" campaign features daily photos of two dogs, tells where the animals and their handlers are stationed, and what they're trained to detect.
State police canines are named after troopers killed on the job, and the posts also will feature photos of those deceased troopers and their stories.
State police say the campaign is a way to introduce the public to the canines that serve their community, and also a way to honor the male and female officers who have lost their lives on the job.
The public can see the posts at www.facebook.com/nyspolice.
