Update: Man killed, passenger critically injured in Goshen tractor-trailer crash

One person is dead and other is critically injured in a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV on Pumpkin Swamp Road and Pulaski Highway in Goshen.

An investigation by the New York State Police found that a 2018 Ford Edge operated by Anthony P. Galimi, 80, of Crestwood, N.Y., was stopped at a stop sign on Pumpkin Swamp Road as he was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Pulaski Highway at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12. His wife, Georgeanna L. Galimi, 76, was in the passenger seat.

According to police, a 2008 Peterbuilt Motors tractor-trailer operated by Randolph L. Baim, 47, of Youngsville, N.Y., was traveling north on Pulaski Highway. As the tractor-trailer approached the intersection of Pumpkin Swamp Road, the Ford Edge entered the intersection in an attempt to go south on Pulaski Highway. It was struck by the tractor-trailer, a garbage truck that subsequently overturned.

Anthony Galimi was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by the emergency room doctor. Georgeanna Galimi was air lifted to Westchester Medical Center, where she is currently listed in critical condition.

Baim said he was not injured as a result of the accident.

The state police, along with the Town of Goshen Police, responded to the scene. They were assisted by the Village of Florida Department, Village of Florida Fire Department, the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Mobile Life.

Pumpkin Swamp Road was closed Monday from Meadow Road to Pulaski Highway.

The investigation is ongoing.
