Legoland construction to close lanes on Route 17
Drivers traveling Route 17 between the Town of Goshen and the Village of Chester may need to pack a little extra patience for the coming weeks, if they want to avoid seeing red.
Legoland New York Public Relations Manager Matt Besterman said that weekly lane closures are planned eastbound and westbound on Route 17 between Exit 125 (Route 17M East – South Street) and Exit 126 (Route 94), due to the Legoland traffic mitigation construction.
Effective immediately, one lane will be closed in each direction between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. until further notice.
All westbound lanes should be open by noon on Friday, Besterman said.
When possible, drivers should seek alternate routes, as delays are anticipated.
Lane closures are necessary for the safety of both motorists and the construction crew, as the theme park entrance bridge begins to take shape, Besterman said.
Caution is advised when driving through the work zone area, Besterman said, and motorists should pay attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.
Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone, and, according to the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
