CHESTER — Dr. Patrick Kelly, D.C. recently opened the Kelly Chiropractic Wellness Center at 45 Brookside Ave. in Chester.
His desire to become a chiropractor had its beginnings years ago, inspired by his Irish immigrant parents, who like others, came to America with very little. Kelly said they taught him to persevere and not give up on his dreams.
His dad was an engineer who believed in alternative medicine back in the ‘70s when it was frowned upon. “At the time, he injured himself on the job. After regular medical treatment couldn’t help, he sought out chiropractic care which helped — and he was able to return to work. And he started bringing the rest of the family, seven kids, regularly for chiropractic care,” said Kelly
He decided he on a career in health care and chiropractic was the field he sought. His two brothers are also chiropractors; one in Illinois and the other in New Jersey, where Kelly had his practice before moving it to Chester.
The doctor holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anatomy and a Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine from the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois.
One of his most rewarding experiences involved identifying a serious injury in a patient. Kelly said, “I had a patient who was thrown from a horse while horseback riding. She presented with mid-back pain. Upon examination and X-rays I diagnosed the patient with a pneumothorax.” He sent her to the hospital immediately, preventing a life-threatening event.
Family and community are important to Patrick Kelly. He and his wife Melissa, a nurse at Keller Army Hospital at West Point, and their two sons, Aidan, 11, and Liam, 14, live in Goshen and are active in the community, where Kelly volunteers his time.
“I was Cub Master of Pack 65 in Goshen until my sons became Boy Scouts,” Kelly said. “I coached Little League in Goshen while my children were active in the sport. I am the current Vice President of the Goshen Soccer Club and coach two travel teams, the Goshen Galaxy and the Goshen Blue Devils, both of which my sons Liam and Aidan play for.” Kelly also coaches his son Liam in CYO basketball.
When not working or volunteering, Dr. Kelly enjoys playing soccer, golfing, fishing and hunting.
Kelly enjoys meeting new patients and helping them achieve better health naturally. He stresses the importance of allowing patients ample time to ask questions and get the answers they need, so they are better able to make an informed decision regarding their health.
His patients speak highly of him. Nicole McKernan-McCluskey said, “Dr Kelly is wonderful. He treats me for back pain and is gentle and thorough. I started seeing him when I was pregnant with my son and having back and hip pain. I have continued to see him whenever I experience back pain for seven years and have referred many friends to him.”
