History, family atmosphere at Mason's Marketplace

Mason's Marketplace and Taproom in New Hampton recently celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting sponsored by the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.

Built in 1866, the building was originally known as the Wawayanda Inn, a stagecoach stop where travelers could rent a room for the night and enjoy a drink in the taproom. In 1917, the Mason family purchased the building and converted it into Mason's General Store and their family residence.

Now, 98 years later, Julie Wright and her family have completely restored the building to its original glory. It houses both the historic taproom and marketplace.

Operated by Wright and her children - Scott, Carlos, Brett, Liz and Nicholas - Mason's Marketplace and Taproom serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Marketplace opens at 6 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends. With a focus on local products, they offer coffee, breakfast, sandwiches, local black dirt produce, pennycandy and, of course, the coldest beer in town. Mason's Marketplace offers Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The taproom offers eight craft beers on tap that are rotated frequently, wine, and a full dinner menu.

Mason's Marketplace and Taproom is located at 550 County Route 50 in New Hampton. For more information, call 845-374-2590 or go to www.masonsmarketplace.com.
