— This year's historic Goshen ornament, now on sale at Linda’s Office Supplies and Gifts, features Goshen’s Historic Train Station (presently is the home of the Village Police Department).
A limited quantity is available, and will be sold to benefit Team Eva, a local youth-based organization that raises awareness about Rett Syndrome, a rare and severe neurological disorder that affects a local girl.
The glass ornament is hand-made in Ecuador, so each is one-of-a-kind.
“I love the significance of the historic train station and its link to the past and the growth of the village and town of Goshen," said store owner Linda Mabie. "It is a beautiful building and I’ve been waiting to select it as one of my ornaments."
This is the fifth year Linda’s has held the ornament sale. Previous ornaments featured other historic Goshen buildings including the Goshen Public Library, the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen Town Hall and the Harness Racing Museum.
Mabie was able to donate more than $500 from each ornament sale to organizations in Goshen. She hopes this year’s sale is just as successful.
“This year I would like to donate the proceeds to the Chris Herren Fund being organized by Team Eva," said Mabie. "I want the money to go to an event that can help our community, the same community that has supported me for over 30 years in business."
Chris Herren is a former NBA basketball star who struggled most of his career with drug addiction and now travels around the country to share his story. Herren will be speaking at Goshen High School on April 12, 2018.
Orange County has the highest number of heroin and opioid overdoses and fatalities in New York State.
The ornament sells fast, Mabie says. Her store is at 22 West Main St. in Goshen. Hours are weekdays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
