‘Heroes’ to be honored at upcoming ceremony
Goshen. Community members can purchase a flag for their personal hero to be displayed at Everett Memorial.
Be part of the Goshen community’s tribute to the heroes in our lives, past and present, by honoring your personal hero – a member of the military, police, fire or other first responders serving the community. Your hero can even be a teacher, coach, mentor, community leader, parent, child or pet!
For a fee of $50, each sponsored flag will be placed atop an 8-foot flagpole with a medallion dedicated to the hero of your choice.
The Flags for Heroes project is one of the main fundraisers for the Goshen Rotary Club. Rotary is an international service organization whose purpose is to assist people in need and advance goodwill and peace around the world.
Some of the local projects and organizations the Goshen club supports include scholarships for high school seniors, dictionaries to all Goshen third-grade students, Braeside Camp in Middletown, Scouts of America, Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and Goshen Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Goshen Fire District, Cornerstone Theatre Arts, Goshen Public Library, and more.
The hero dedication ceremony, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, will see the flags, replete with their heroic medallions, installed approximately six feet apart at the Charles J. Everett Memorial in Goshen.
The flags will be on display through Nov. 18, after which the medallion will be delivered to the flag’s sponsor.
