Goshen's Class of 2017

GOSHEN — Goshen High School graduated 226 senior class members last Friday, in a ceremony moved indoors from the school's traditional Historic Track venue to get out of the way of an approaching rainstorm.
John Patrick Swift, the senior class president, welcomed family and friends. Also addressing the audience of well-wishers was the Class of 2017's Honor Graduates: Constance Jeanne Bouchard, Elizabeth Lydia Tarvin DeFusto, Shannon Leigh Doherty, Nina H. Pasquini, Deanna Jane Villegas, and Katelyn Grace Zirilli.
Goshen Central High School Varsity Choir and Jazz Voices, with Kristen Scully as director and Molly Lloyd as accompanist, performed Sondheim's "No One Is Alone." Goshen Central High School Band, with Kimberly Longo as director, performed the Big Band Spectacular, The Star Spangled Banner, and, of course, Pomp and Circumstance.
One especially charming aspect of this year's ceremony is the growing trend of graduates expressing their creativity and communicating their messages on their mortarboards. Many were funny (Emily Catalano's "Don’t Make Me Use My TEACHER VOICE"), others inspiring (Isabella Hawkins's "I am able I am strong I am a woman"), some were stunning pieces of visual art (Katie Zirilli's "Butterfly and Flowers"), some included their next stop on the life train (Paul Chilana's Boston College Ever to Excel"), and a few mysterious, at least to the uninitiated (Constance Bouchard's "The Worst Thing About High School was THE DEMENTORS BU ‘21").
