The first race of the day at Goshen Historic Track kicked off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, during the County Race and Craft Fair. Photos by Sammie Finch.

The Historic Track is a half-mile harness racing track that opened in 1838 and has been in operation ever since, making it the oldest continuously operated horse racing track in North America. There are reports that informal horse races had been held along neighboring Main Street since the 1750s.

Although betting on the horses at Goshen Historic Track was discontinued last century, friendly wagers have been known to take place every once in a while.

The Gremli/Fornera Family are frequent visitors to Goshen Historic Track.

These folks found some shelter from the weather.

The race set off even with a dismal forecast at Goshen Historic Track on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021.
The County Race and Craft Fair open its gates at 11 a.m. with the first race kicking off two hours later.
Despite the dreary weather predictions, locals gathered with raincoats and umbrellas in hand to eat some yummy food, shop the local vendors and watch the races.
Cheers echoed throughout the stands as the first race set off and the horse and sulkies rushed by.
The rain did not damper this annual event as families walked around and enjoyed seeing the horses up close.
