Glenmere Mansion names new executive chef

— Glenmere Mansion, the Relais & Chateaux award-winning hotel in the Hudson Valley, has appointed Gunnar Thompson as its executive chef.

His culinary resume includes being awarded the prestigious Taittinger “2012 Grand Chef of the Year” for Relais & Châteaux worldwide.

He won designation as a “Relais & Chateaux Grand Chef” in 2011 and was awarded the Taittinger title his very next year.

'Healthy Kids Initiative'During this time he was executive chef at the Erna’s Elderberry House, the restaurant at the Relais & Chateaux hotel, Chateau du Sureau in Yosemite, California, named by Zagat the top restaurant/hotel in the San Francisco Bay area.

Prior to joining Glenmere Mansion, Thompson was executive chef at three restaurants on the vast 12,000-acre Primland Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. There he was named by Michelle Obama and Epicurious Magazine “Celebrity Chef” for “Healthy Kids Initiative” additionally being named one of Virginia’s “Top 10 Chefs.”

Thompson will oversee all culinary operations and culinary events at Glenmere Mansion, including both hotel restaurants: the fine dining Supper Room and the more casual Frogs End Tavern.

The Supper Room is open 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and for champagne brunch on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

The Frogs End Tavern is open daily for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Both are by reservation only 845-469-1900.

'Farm to Table'Thompson’s culinary journey has been influenced by his love of gardening and foraging for mushrooms making his “farm-to-table” cuisine so distinctive. Through his commitment to sustainable agriculture and farming, he is dedicated to using as many Hudson Valley products as possible showcasing the natural abundance of local ingredients from many nearby farms including Blooming Hill Farms, Edgwick Farms, Tonjes Dairy, Meadow Creek Farm, LaBelle Farm and the Hudson Valley Cattle Company.

Thompson lives in Warwick with his wife Chrissy and their two young children.
