Glenmere Mansion & Spa, one of North America’s finest small hotels, has won the coveted Relais & Chateaux “Passion Trophy” for 2017.
Glenmere, which received the award at this year’s annual Relais & Chateaux Congress in Tokyo, Japan, is the first property to ever win the award representing the United States.
The Congress is held yearly for the 500 worldwide members of the prestigious hotel association to induct new members, announce the award winner and release its annual guide for the coming year.
Glenmere Mansion, which became a member of the invitation-only esteemed Hotel Association in 2010, has the distinction of being the first hotel property to be inducted into the group within the hotel’s first year of opening.
The Passion Trophy was presented to Daniel DeSimone and Alan Stenberg, owners and innkeepers of Glenmere, for their commitment and investment to the art of hospitality as well as their personal presence and creative vision responsible for the seven-years-young, newly opened, award-winning hotel and spa. The Trophy, founded in 2004, is endorsed by Hennessy, the world-renowned Cognac house. Glenmere was singled out for the award above 500 Relais & Chateaux properties in 60 countries across five continents.
“We were surprised, shocked and excited to be awarded this esteemed Relais & Chateaux Trophy,” according to DeSimone, one of the owners of Glenmere Mansion. “It is such an honor to be recognized among this elite group of hoteliers from around the world. Being a member of the Association is already such an honor but being singled out for this top trophy is overwhelming. Alan and I share this new accolade with many thanks to an amazing staff of dedicated Glenmere employees.”
“Behind the soul and spirit of a place, there is always the influence of a personality,” according to a spokesman for the Hennessy Company. “A Relais & Chateaux hotel like Glenmere Mansion turns out to be a newfound passion for two men who discovered a new calling in the hotel industry and fulfilled their desire for excellence and creative vision in this unique and outstanding hotel property in the Hudson Valley.”
Glenmere joins an esteemed list of past winners of the Trophy including: Le Club De Cavaliere & Spa, Lavandou, France 2016; George Wenger Hotel and Restaurant, LeNoirmont, Switzerland 2015; Singer Sporthotel & Spa, Tirol, Austria 2014; Camp Jabulani, Kapami Game Reserve, South Africa 2013; and Chateaux de Feuilies, Baie Sainte Anne, Seychelles 2012.
