GOSHEN — District Attorney Frank Phillips announced that he will retire at the end of this year for personal reasons.

He served as the county's top prosecutor for 28 years.

Orange County Executive Edward Diana said in a statement Feb. 1 that he was "honored to count him not only as a colleague, but as a personal friend as well. Frank has given many years of service to the people of Orange County and we have benefitted from his experience and dedication.

Diana said Phillips leaves behind a proud legacy — "a strong team of Assistant District Attorneys, a positive relationship with local law enforcement, and a commitment to public safety on behalf of our residents."

Before becoming district attorney, Phillips served as an assistant district attorney for seven years.

His term will end on Dec. 31, 2013.
