GOSHEN — Thomas Cione, a former town and village justice in Goshen, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, according to Goshen officials.
"On behalf of the entire Village of Goshen we extend our deepest condolences to the Cione family and his friends,” said Goshen Mayor Kyle Roddey. “He served the Village with honor for many years and will be deeply missed."
Cione is survived by his wife, Lynn Cione, and their children. He was 59 years old.
Cione served as the Town of Goshen Justice for almost 14 years, up until the end of 2015. He practiced law for over 29 years in the Mid-Hudson Valley, with his private office located on North Church Street in Goshen.
Cione and Benjamin Ostrer were law partners in the mid-90s after Cione left the Orange County Attorney’s Office. Tom decided he wanted to practice by himself and pursue elected office, Ostrer said, but they remained fans of each other ever since.
“He was the epitome of a public servant, Ostrer said. “He was dedicated to his family, his community, his church. He was just a credit to Goshen. It’s like reading a great book and somebody tore out the last pages of the book.”
Admitted in New York State Courts, Cione was also admitted to practice in the Federal Courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He was a member of the Goshen Lions Club, the Goshen Chamber of Commerce, the New York State Magistrates Association and the Central Orange County Italian American Association.
