— Eliza McCarthy, a senior at Goshen High School, was a National Medalist in the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers’ 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
She won a Gold Medal for her photograph "Peripheral Vision."
National Medalists represent less than 1 percent of submissions to the 2017 Scholastic Awards. This year, students submitted more than 330,000 works of art and writing. Only 2,470 medals were awarded at the national level.
Since 1923, the Awards have recognized creative teenagers from across the country, including Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Robert Redford, Lena Dunham, and Sylvia Plath.
Eliza will be honored at a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 8, and her photograph will featured in the National Exhibition at Parsons School of Design at The New School and Pratt Institute’s Pratt Manhattan Gallery from June 2 to 12.
