CHESTER AND GOSHEN — Three propositions on the ballot in Chester won overwhelmingly Tuesday, including the proposal to borrow $1.1 million to buy the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center (3,292 — 1,040) and to switch to a ward system of government (2,650 — 1,825). The town's annual contribution to the library also received strong support (2,650 — 1,825).
Tuesday's decision on the performing arts is in stark contrast to the 2016 vote rejecting the town's proposal to buy the Frozen Ropes sports training facility for $3.3 million. That proposal was rejected 3,230 to 1,628.
Goshen resident James O'Donnell lost his bid for Congress, running against incumbent Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring, in Putnam County. O'Donnell also lost in Orange County, 54 to 46 percent. Chester resident Michael Sussman lost his bid for NYS Attorney General.
NYS Assemblyman James Skoufis of Woodbury won his bid for NYS Senator in the 39th District. Colin Schmitt of New Windsor won his bid for Skoufis's current seat, and will be NYS Assemblyman in the 99th District.
Jen Metzger of Rosendale won statewide in her bid for NYS Senator in the 42nd District over Ann Rabbitt of Greenwood Lake. Metzger and Rabbitt were just about tied in Orange County, with Rabbitt receiving 61 more votes.
