DIRECTV blimp is based at Orange County Airport for Subway Series
MONTGOMERY — The DIRECTV blimp will be based at Orange County Airport in Montgomery until Wednesday, Aug. 8.
The blimp is in town for coverage of next week’s Subway Series between the New York Yankees and New York Mets (Monday and Tuesday at Citifield then Wednesday and Thursday at Yankee Stadium).
You might see the airship around Orange County on Sunday during one of its exposure flights, according to Justin Rodriguez, the assistant to Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus.
The Sunday DIRECTV blimp tour will likely include a trip over West Point.
The DIRECTV blimp arrived to Orange County via Boston on Wednesday.
It is operated by Van Wagner Aerial Media in Orlando, Fla.
The DIRECTV blimp is an A-170LS (lightship).
It is approximately 178 feet long and 46 feet wide, holding 170,000 cubic feet of helium.
The DIRECTV blimp is the only ship in the world with a 2,100 square-foot full-color LED screen.
