Chester observes 9/11
Chester. Clergy, firefighters, Kiwanis Club members, Scouts, and others gathered at the 9/11 memorial in Chester on the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
A gathering at the 9/11 memorial in Chester last Wednesday commemorated the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
Clergy offered prayers. Firefighter and Kiwanis Club member Ed Stoddard, organizer of the commemoration, read the names of those lost from the Chester community: Thomas F. Dowd, Thomas P. Holohan Jr., Lynne I. Morris, Paul G. Ruback, and Donald J. Tuzio.
Tuzio's daughter Jeanmarie Tuzio read a poem to the gathered crowd. The Chester Girl Scouts placed flowers and read petitions for prayer.
The Kiwanis Club of Chester built the memorial in Chester Community Park on Vadala Lane in the years after the attack. It pays tribute to all people killed by terror. Included is a replica of the World Trade Center, a low wall in the shape of the Pentagon, and a stone in the shape of Pennsylvania to represent those lost on Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pa. It also includes a "survivor tree" from the Oklahoma City National Memorial site.
