Chester Academy students learn about forgiveness
Chester. The middle school students heard from several speakers at the recent assembly.
On Nov. 19, Chester Academy’s middle school students attended an assembly titled “Breaking the Cycle of Violence Through Forgiveness.”
Program Director Tim Mendel introduced the assembly by speaking about the importance of forgiveness. Patti Ann McDonald shared her story about her late husband, NYPD Detective Steven McDonald, after showing a video about his legacy. AnnMarie D’Aliso spoke about her son Patrick, who tragically died by suicide at age 16, 20 years ago. She reminded students, “The person you think has it all might be hurting the most. We get so caught up in the busyness of life that we forget what really matters. Life is beautiful, and so are you. I hope you never give up hope.”
Pat D’Aliso, former Monroe-Woodbury football coach, offered students words of encouragement and wisdom, saying, “You have no idea how lucky you are to be surrounded by the people in this room. You don’t live in a bubble. You are connected — to family, friends, and school. If you see someone who has lost their voice, speak up. If you know something, say something. You are not alone, and together you can get through anything.”
“This assembly was a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, connection, and hope in all our lives,” the school district added.
