Brandon Holdridge
CHESTER. Challenger Brandon Holdridge is running for Town of Chester supervisor.
Why are you running for supervisor?
I’m a third-generation Chester resident with experience working for Congress, the New York State Senate, and as a Chester councilman. I’m running to preserve Chester for future generations. I am the best option this town has to fight for our interests and make it affordable and attractive to live here.
What are the top three things you plan to accomplish if elected?
Overdevelopment of our suburban/rural community threatens our future. I’m committed to retaining our way of life while encouraging smart growth. We need to prevent what’s happening in our neighboring communities from happening here.
Our preservation bill has stalled for too long; we must begin to use our budget to invest in Chester’s open space. My opponent’s campaign finance reports reveal that he received $1,000 from a Greens of Chester co-owner, Livy Schwartz. This exemplifies what his position really is on runaway development.
Regardless of our efforts, development is coming. Having a long-term plan and better oversight of our infrastructure will lead to future success. Roads, sewage, drainage, water districts, etc., all need constant repairing, replacing, upgrading. You deserve a coherent and transparent plan with our highway department, so you know your tax dollars are used intelligently.
What makes you the best candidate for this position?
Our largest difference is leadership. My opponent sets a poor example to our departments/employees when he doesn’t come to work, whereas I will promise to serve as a full-time supervisor. His tenure is marked by lawsuits linked directly to his words and actions that harm the town financially. He has had antagonistic relationships with our higher elected officials, whereas I’ve nurtured relationships with them all, resulting in long-sought repaving projects. The ward system, approved by a three to one majority, languished for five years under my opponent, until I pushed to finally enact it. I’ve worked to establish the independence of the Ethics Committee.
Feel free to add information about your background and qualifications.
I will dedicate everything I have to serve this town if you give me the opportunity.
