Chester candidate Vinny Finizia
Chester. Incumbent candidate for town board to fill a vacancy (Dem).
Transparency and fiscal responsibility: All town business, other than pending litigation and proprietary issues, must be brought to the attention of all Chester residents. A significant part of Chester's population commutes to work and in some cases have two or more jobs. That group and others, unfortunately, have very little time to get involved in town business. One of the functions as a councilman is to sign payment vouchers. I personally take this responsibility very seriously and review each voucher and question any that I may have concerns about. I ask all the questions most people/politicians want to ask but don’t. I am not a career politician and only answer to the people.
As long as I am councilman, there will be no backdoor deals. All significant potential expenditures that are not mandated will go through the process for the residents to vote on.
Land preservation: From its inception, I have strongly supported the PDR. Purchase of Development Rights is a transfer tax on property. As small as the tax is, it will allow the Town of Chester to purchase open/farm land that cannot be developed.
Quality of water is parallel with land preservation. Recently, I was invited by NYS Assemblyman Colin Schmitt to join his Water Quality Task Force, which I graciously accepted.
