John J. Petrizzo Jr. of Monroe, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, Aug. 6, 2021. He was 74 years old.
Born in the Bronx on May 29, 1947, John was the son of Theresa (née Buccolo) and John J. Petrizzo Sr.
John is survived by his wife Lorraine (née Pulice) at home in Monroe, in addition to his children, John J. Petrizzo, wife Lisa, and one granddaughter, Annabel of New York City; and Michael Petrizzo of Monroe. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Viviano and brother-in-law Joe of Valley Stream; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In 1965 at the age of 18, John went to work at the New York Daily News in Manhattan and made his way up the ranks, becoming Manager of the Administrative Services Department. Known as “Johnny The Bull,” his colleagues remembered how incredibly helpful he was to everyone, that they never knew a day when he was in a bad mood and he could always be counted on to get any task done, no matter how big or small. He oversaw five company moves in 2013 alone, including relocating the offices multiple times after the paper was displaced due to the destruction of Hurricane Sandy.
He retired in December 2013 after working at The Daily News for over 48 years.
John was a dedicated family man, devoting many hours attending his sons’ soccer, Little League, Pop Warner, high-school and college football games. He could regularly be heard chanting loudly on the sidelines, “Let’s Go Monroe!” during football season.
John and his wife of 52 years, Lorraine, loved to travel, exploring many places in the world including China, Spain, Portugal, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Russia and Italy, to name just a few.
But above all, it was the moments with family that he enjoyed most: going to N.Y. Giants and Yankee games with his sons, playing Monopoly and making pancakes with his granddaughter and the many holiday celebrations with his relatives.
