Dominick S. Cassisi dies at age 88

Dominick S. Cassisi of New Windsor died on Friday, Nov. 30. He was 88.

Son of Leonarda Cardillo and Salvatore Cassisi, he was born July 21, 1924, in New York, N.Y.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II onthe LST 494, serving from Oct. 30, 1943, until April 3, 1946. He received European Theater, Victory, American Theater and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medals. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Knights of Columbus in Washingtonville. He was a member of the Elks in Middletown for 66 years and served as a member of the American Legion for 63 years.

He owned and operated Mickey's Landing on Beaver Dam Lake. Later, he was the owner of the Chester Inn, where he enjoyed serving and socializing with his customers, whom he also called his friends. For more than 20 years he managed the men's department at Kassel Brothers. He was known for being friendly, dapper and willing to help customers improve their style and image.

He enjoyed life by dancing with his wife and gathering with his family and friends. He looked forward to spending time with his family for the annual father's day golf outings and Wednesday's poker night.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Camille Floriano Cassisi; six children, Salvatore, Antonio, Dominick, Michael, Gina, and Vincent; 12 grandchildren, Wade, Hunter, Dylan, Kyra, Chase, Gianna, Brittany, Taylor, Marisa, Vincent, Isabella, Nicole Tarr, and Chi; his cousin, Angie Russo; and niece, Lenore DiDonato, along with many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Salvatore Cassisi; and two sisters, Rose F. Cassisi and Anna DiDonato.

Visitation was held Dec. 3 at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, Washingtonville. A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4, at St Mary's Church in Washingtonville, with burial following at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen.
