Carolyn A. Denny, formerly of Warwick, passed away on Sunday Oct. 3, 2021.
Born on Oct. 4, 1936, in Port Jefferson, she was the daughter of Horace D. Newins and Allene B. Newins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert H. Denny.
Carolyn graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1954 and went on to graduate summa cum laude from Albertus Magnus College in 1958. She earned her degree in early education and taught elementary school on Long Island.
Upon moving to Warwick in 1970, she devoted her life to raising her four children and spent much of her free time serving the community, an activity from which she derived much satisfaction. She was involved in the AAUW, Welcome Wagon, teaching preschool, helping the Historical Society, the garden club, volunteering at St. Anthony Community Hospital and the Mustard Seed migrant ministry. Her greatest pleasure was delivering Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years and serving as a Eucharistic minister for St. Stephen’s parish.
During this time, she also earned her masters in library science and worked at the Albert Wisner Public Library.
When her children left home, she and Robert had many wonderful years traveling abroad and spending time with their grandchildren.
Carolyn will be remembered mostly for her kindheartedness, generosity of spirit and warm sense of humor.
Survivors include her daughter Karen of York, Pa., her son David and his wife Sheilah of Portland, Oregon, daughter Clare and her husband Matt of York, Pa., and son Brian and his wife Monica of San Diego, California; granddaughters Sarah Rubino, Grace Williams, Margo Denny and Priscilla Denny. Grandson Connor MacDonald. Carolyn also had one great-grandson: Calvin Rubino.
A graveside service will begin at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at St. John’s Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village.
The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., West York, Pa., is assisting with the arrangements.
