Chabad to host women's Mega Challah Bake on Nov. 3
Highland Mills. Participants will make and braid challah dough from scratch, and enjoy festive music and dancing.
Bringing the warmth and tradition of challah baking to Orange County, Chabad invites all Jewish women ages 12 and up to participate in a Mega Challah Bake to be held on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the scenic Rushmore Estate Ballroom in Highland Mills.
Led by Chana Burston, of Chabad of Orange County, plans for the event include participants making and braiding challah dough from scratch, festive music and dancing, exciting giveaways and delicious refreshments.
A few moments of introspection will be included to pray together for health, happiness, prosperity and any other blessings needed, with the hope that the power in numbers will inspire the answer to each one’s prayers.
Participants will take home recipes, a souvenir bag and apron.
“Baking challah is a time-honored Mitzvah (commandment) dating back to our matriarchs,” said Chana Burston, who co-directs Chabad of Orange County with her husband, Rabbi Pesach.“Discovering the beauty of this tradition, unique to women, participants can then go home and share this beautiful part of Shabbat with others. It is taught that when a woman bakes Challah and makes the blessings on the dough, she is bringing additional blessing into her home and into the food that she lovingly prepares for family and friends.”
