Florida. Repair Café to host knife sharpening class at Florida Public Library
The Repair Café is coming to the Florida Public Library to host “A Cut Above,” a knife sharpening class. Join Repair Café ‘fixpert” Fred Rossi for a two-part workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Participants at the first class will learn how to care for knives of all shapes and sizes as well as tools and scissors. Rossi will also discuss what materials can be sharpened and the process of sharpening.
In the second part patrons will learn various techniques for sharpening knives, tools and scissors.
Participants may bring one non-serrated knife or scissors to be sharpened.
The workshop is part of the library’s Libraries Transforming Communities: Focus on Small and Rural Libraries Grant from the American Library Association.
Participants can also check out Florida’s Library of Things, a collection of useful items that one might need on occasion but may not have the means or desire to purchase. The collection includes cooking supplies, electronics, video and board games, knitting kits, gardening supplies, outdoor games and more.
Most notable in FPL’s Library of Things is a Tool Library, containing a wide range of tools that patrons can borrow for repairs or projects around the house.
All items in the Library of Things collection are listed on the library’s website at www.floridapubliclibrary.org; just click on the Library of Things tab.
Online registration is required for both classes and participants must attend both days. If you have any questions regarding the class, call 845-651-7659. The library is located at 4 Cohen Circle in Florida.
