Goshen Gladiator Student-Athletes of the Week

GOSHEN — The Goshen Gladiator Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 2 are senior wrestling captains Michael Kubik, Tom Kearns and Ryan Ellefsen.
MICHAEL KUBIK
Michael Kubik has been on the varsity wrestling team since ninth grade and has been wrestling since seventh grade. This year, he is 9-1 on the season and is one of the best at the 145-pound weight class in Section IX. Michael finished last year on a high note, with a sixth place finish at the Section IX Championships. He is looking forward to another strong showing at Section IX Championships and a berth in the NYS Championship tournament.
TOM KEARNS
Tom Kearns has been a member of the varsity wrestling team since ninth grade. He is currently one of the top wrestlers at 195 pounds with an 8-1 record on the season. Last year, Tom finished fifth at the Section IX Championships.
RYAN ELLEFSEN
Ryan Ellefsen is one of the most decorated wrestlers in program history. Last year, he finished second at the NYS Championships and was named an All-American. He is currently undefeated this season at 10-0 with all victories coming via pin. Ryan earned his 100 career victory last week and is currently ranked #1 in Section IX, #2 in New York State, and #13 nationally. He recently signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his wrestling career at Division I Clarion University. Ryan’s goal is to win this year’s New York State Championship at 220 pounds.
