— A maintenance worker at the Pennsylvania Welcome Center in Matamoras was stabbed Saturday night in the head and right hand as he was cleaning a bathroom, according to the Pennsylvania State Police at Blooming Grove.

Caryl Bowman Cordaro, 37, of no known address, was arrested and charged with robbery, aggravated assault, and possessing the instruments of a crime.

According to police, Cordaro attacked Raymond Diaz, 49, of Port Jervis from behind as Diaz was working. Diaz was able to fight off his attacker and run for help to a neighboring business.

Members from the state police at Blooming Grove's patrol and criminal investigation units responded at 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23. A joint search ensued, conducted by the state police, the Eastern Regional Pike Police, and Port Jervis police departments.

They found Cordaro, who was later identified by a witness, police said.

Diaz was treated at Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis and later released.
