CHESTER — The Village of Chester will hold a public hearing on proposed zoning changes at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, at village hall, before the regularly scheduled trustees' meeting.

The proposed changes limit the authority of the village planning board and remove its oversight in some instances.

Residents may express their views about the changes or send comments to the mayor and village board.

The village recently annexed 60-plus acres to accommodate BT Holdings, a proposed development that will put 228 condominiums and 80 senior citizen rental units on 68 acres behind the ShopRite plaza. The annexation is allowing the developer to build more intensively than would have been possible if the property had stayed in the town, which lacks the water and infrastructure needed for the number of residences in his plan. The annexed property needs zoning, which will be included in the village-wide zoning update.

The full text of Proposed Local Law No. 4 of 2013, “Amendment to Chapter 98 Zoning RM Zone,” is available at village hall, 47 Main St., Chester, and on the village website: villageofchesterny.com (look for "revised text" under "public hearings"), or follow this link: http://bit.ly/1sGRbv3.
