— Adam J.K. Palenik of Wallkill, in Ulster County, was arrested for breaking car windows and stealing items from cars in Heritage Trail parking lots.

On June 6 at approximately 10:10 a.m., the Town of Blooming Grove Police Department Patrol and Detective divisions arrested Palenik, 38, following an investigation into the vandalism and larceny affecting at least eight vehicles parked in the lots at Goosepond State Park and the entrance to the Heritage Trail in Blooming Grove from April 21 to May 14.

Items stolen included credit cards, an iPad, a laptop computer and cash. The value of the items and cash stolen from victims' vehicles exceeded $1,800. The stolen credit cards were used at various stores in the region, which added several thousand dollars of stolen purchases to his crime spree.

The Blooming Grove Police Department conducted a "buy/bust" operation in which Palenik attempted to sell a stolen watch he had listed on Craigslist to a undercover Blooming Grove detective.

Palenik was charged with five counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony, for the theft of credit cards; two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony, for stealing property totaling over $1,800; and six counts of third-degree criminal mischief, a Class E felony, for the damage to the vehicles exceeding $1,000.

Paleink was committed to Orange County Jail on $7,500 cash or $15,000 secured bond.

The Blooming Grove Police is working with several other agencies in Orange and Ulster counties to see if dozens of similar cases are linked to these cases.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Ofc. Ronald Moraski or Det. Brett Weeden at the Town of Blooming Grove Police Department at 496-9161. The police department is located at 2 Horton Rd., Washingtonville.
