Two former associates of President Donald Trump — his former campaign manager Paul Manafort and former lawyer Michael Cohen, will both be serving time in nearby federal penitentiaries.
Paul Manafort was transferred this week to the United States Penitentiary Canaan near Waymart, Pa., in Wayne County, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
Manafort, 70, was sentenced last month to 7.5 years in prison for his guilty plea to charges stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
USP Canaan is a high security prison with a minimum security satellite camp. He is scheduled to be released in December 2024.
Meanwhile, Cohen, 52, will report on May 6 to the federal prison in Otisville, N.Y., in Orange County. He was sentenced in December to three years after pleading guilty to eight charges, including making hush money payments, in violation of campaign finance laws, to two women who claim to have had affairs with President Trump.
Cohen was originally scheduled to begin his sentence on March 6 but was granted a postponement so that he could receive medical treatment and cooperate with congressional inquiries.
