Orange County Civil Service to hold career information sessions for Police Officer/Deputy Sheriff Civil Service exam GOSHEN. 'Public service through a career in law enforcement is a great way to earn a living while giving back to your community.'

    The Orange County Department of Human Resources’ Civil Service Unit will be holding information sessions for individuals wishing to pursue a full-time career in law enforcement.
    The information sessions will provide a unique opportunity for individuals who wish to pursue a career in law enforcement to hear first-hand from law enforcement professionals. Moreover, these sessions will provide a detailed overview from the Civil Service standpoint providing information on how to apply for the exam, minimum qualification for the exam, understanding a Civil Service Eligible List and canvassing, as well as, an overview of the merit and fitness system.
    “Public service through a career in law enforcement is a great way to earn a living, while giving back to your community at the same time,” Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said in the press release announcing the information sessions. “I encourage members of the public interested in a career in law enforcement to attend an information session and learn about the process to become a police officer.”
    “Orange County administers the Civil Service Exam for Police Officer / Deputy Sheriff for the Sheriff’s Department and all Towns and Villages in Orange County,” Commissioner of Human Resources Steven M. Gross added. “Once established, a Civil Service Eligible List is used for up to four years to fill full-time appointments to police officer.”
    The information sessions are as follows:
    • June 24 at 3 and 5 p.m. at the Town of New Windsor Community Center, 555 Union Ave., New Windsor.
    • June 26 at 6 p.m. at the Emergency Services Center 911 Auditorium, 22 Wells Farm Road, Goshen.

    • June 28 at 4 p.m. at the Town of Wallkill Community Center, 8 Wes Warren Drive, Middletown.
