— The Goshen Central School District held a groundbreaking ceremony May 29 at Goshen High School to commemorate the start of construction for the voter-approved $30.48 million capital improvement project.
District officials, board of education members, students and members of the community too part. The ceremony began with opening remarks from Superintendent Daniel Connor, who thanked the Goshen community for supporting the project.
“I can’t express how excited I am for what lies ahead,” he said. “The completion of the capital improvement project will ensure that our students receive a top-rate education in state-of-the-art facilities. The next 14 months could be the most exciting of my 42 years in education.”
The ceremony also included remarks from Board of Education President Judy Green and Class of 2020 Treasurer Kalil Thomas, as well as choral music from the Goshen High School students.
The $30.48 million capital improvement project was approved by voters on Feb. 28, 2017, and will create 21st century learning environments, address safety and security, modernize the performing arts program and auditorium and upgrade the athletic facilities at Goshen High School. Construction will begin June 25, after students are dismissed for the summer, and will take approximately 14 months to complete.
“I think we might be more excited for the end of the school year than the students are,” joked Matt Milnamow, project manager at LAN Associates, who is managing the design team for the project. “LAN Associates has really found a niche on the education landscape and we look forward to continuing our work for local school districts, especially serving our hometown community in Goshen.”
Since 2013, LAN has been working with Goshen Central School District as their Architect-of-Record to complete routine capital improvement projects and referendum design services required to implement a $4.6 million bond in 2014 and the most recent $30.5 million capital project for the work at the high school and the districtwide information technology improvements.
“This is something that we worked really hard to achieve, and to get to this point is truly remarkable," said Connor.
